Bassetlaw District Council in association with Bassetlaw Local Strategic Partnership and Business Representatives has developed a scheme to help support local businesses, and attract more customers to our town centres.

The concept is simple, the more money that is spent in the local economy, the more is retained by local businesses which helps to sustain the viability of shopping areas, which in turn helps keep our towns safer and cleaner.  In these difficult trading times, it is the spending customers that our local businesses need to survive and thrive.

The Bassetlaw Loyalty Card Scheme has the following objectives:

  • encourage collaboration between local businesses to develop a more attractive offering to current and potential customers, to help drive business growth
  • increase the number of customers using the businesses in Bassetlaw, their frequency of usage and spend per head per visit
  • provide a benefit to the local community by developing a vibrant and attractive environment, which will have a beneficial effect on inward investment
  • contribute towards a healthy labour market, improve employment prospects by stimulating the business economy, improving the attractiveness of existing businesses and the area
  • contribute towards providing an attractive retail environment to a wide range of people from across the area, to attract more of them to use the area on more occasions
  • an enhanced sense of community and loyalty towards the area
  • This scheme is based on a successful scheme currently operating in Penzance to good effect. Participating businesses report that they have seen an increase in trade and also an increase in repeat customers.

The loyalty card scheme is just one of a number of initiatives Bassetlaw District Council has developed to improve town centre business.  Others include:

  • A targeted free car parking reduction scheme
  • Training courses for local retailers
  • Market trader development
  • Events and street entertainment
  • Promotions and developments
